Sandra Betti had the idea for ShopandCook:
"My love of Tuscany brought me to the idea of healthy and tasty cooking, based on foods and ingredients direct from local sources. We will show how to recognise quality in various produce that is essential to create excellent dishes.
Teaching cooking, using seasonal produce and passing along centuries-old Tuscan traditions through my personal experience are the priorities for my lessons."
The menus have been put together with careful thought based on dishes that best represent this fascinating region of Italy.
The students will be with us as we purchase all of the produce and ingredients necessary for the chosen dishes. We will go to various local growers in the Chianti area of Tuscany to buy everything needed for the recipe of the day.
We will make a stop at the organic vegetable garden in Poggibonsi for fruits and vegetables in season. At the Caseificio Nuovo (the New Dairy) we find milk and cheeses and at the Gambassi butcher shop all types of quality meats.
For wines and local organic olive oil we will visit the Pasolini dall’Onda Borghese cellars.
The second part of the courses will be cooking the dishes from our menu together either at Sandra's home in San Martino, Barberino Val d’Elsa or at the Selva in Badia a Passignano. Finally, we will dineon all the food we have prepared.
“Food for Italians is an integral part of their culture, linked to social and family life.”
